Project Content

Summary of Problems: Biodiversity maintenance mechanism is one of the hot issues in ecological research, and biodiversity maintenance mechanism in fragile habitats is one of the hot issues. The response and impact of biodiversity in vulnerable habitats to global changes are not only ecological issues, but also sociological issues. Its maintenance mechanism has become a major frontier issue in life science and a hot topic in international academic circles to study global changes.

In recent years, with the rapid development of social economy and the continuous expansion of the intensity and depth of human development of the natural environment, the problems caused by climate change, sharp reduction of biodiversity, environmental pollution, land desertification and so on have led to the enhancement of ecosystem sensitivity, the weakening of anti-interference and adaptability, and the difficulty of recovery after damage. Vulnerable habitats are more sensitive to external disturbances and less adaptable due to their weak system anti-interference ability, strong spatio-temporal fluctuation, significant edge effect and high environmental heterogeneity.

In recent years, the research on ecosystem vulnerability mainly involves the evaluation and management of ecosystem vulnerability. As the basis of management, ecological vulnerability assessment has become the most important content of ecosystem vulnerability research. Including the analysis of the connotation and essence of ecosystem vulnerability based on the physical, chemical and biological processes of the ecosystem and the quantitative assessment of ecosystem vulnerability based on the spatial and regional perspectives. The vulnerability of the ecosystem is characterized from the perspectives of hydrological processes, soil loss and vegetation degradation at different scales.

As one of the cores of the ecosystem, the theoretical framework of the maintenance mechanism of biodiversity in fragile habitats is still weak. How do niche theory, community neutrality theory, near neutrality theory, local mate hypothesis, random dilution hypothesis and other theories explain the coexistence of species in fragile habitats? What factors affect the maintenance of biodiversity in vulnerable habitats, the level of environmental resources, the order of species settlement, the status and relationship of trophic level (food chain).

The habitat conditions, structure and function of the ecosystem are important components to characterize the health status of the ecosystem, and their advantages and disadvantages can systematically reflect the vulnerability status of the ecosystem and its formation mechanism. Structure and function are important characteristics of the ecosystem. Any ecosystem must rely on a certain structure to realize its function and affect its effect. At the same time, habitat conditions are the basis for the normal operation of the ecosystem. The more complex the ecosystem structure, the more powerful its function and the better its habitat conditions, the stronger its ability to resist interference, the higher its stability and the lower its vulnerability. Therefore, it is necessary to study the relationship between species diversity and ecosystem function to reveal the maintenance and diversity function of biodiversity in fragile habitats. Including the effects of biodiversity on productivity, consumption level, stability and compensation effect of fragile habitat ecosystem, the effects of fragile habitat resource level on biodiversity and ecosystem function, and the regulation mechanism of human disturbance on aboveground and underground biodiversity of ecosystem.

In order to obtain a comprehensive and perfect theory on the maintenance mechanism of diversity in fragile habitats, we should persist in studying the interaction mechanism between various factors and species diversity, diversity and ecosystem function comprehensively and deeply from different temporal and spatial scales and different object levels.

Significance: On the basis of studying the vulnerability characteristics of the ecosystem, from the perspective of the structure, function and habitat of the ecosystem, the sensitivity and adaptability of the system are comprehensively considered to reveal the biodiversity maintenance mechanism of vulnerable habitats, so as to provide scientific basis for curbing the further deterioration of vulnerable habitats and their ecological restoration and reconstruction.
